Washington intends to submit a request to the UN Security Council to include the Al-Kani militia, which is close to the commander of the aggression, Khalifa Haftar, to the UN sanctions list.
In the same context, the US Deputy Delegate to the UN, Richard Mills, said during a session of the UN Security Council on Tuesday that Mohamed Al-Kani and the Al-Kani militia are among the most terrible human rights violators in Libya, indicating that they carried out forced disappearances, torture and killing in the city of Tarhuna, according to Al Arabic 21 website.
Mills added that the United States is in the process of nominating the Al-Kani militia to the International Sanctions Committee in the “Security Council” to be included in the list soon, stressing that the classifications in the Sanctions Committee will be a strong message from the Security Council to the Libyan authorities and the international community, to take targeted enforcement measures against violators of Human rights, and put an end to the culture of impunity in Libya that fuels the conflict, he said.
“Mills” explained his country and the international community’s feeling of horror about the mass graves that were discovered in Tarhuna and the corpses with signs of torture, stressing the support of international bodies and the Libyan authorities to investigate these violations and bring the perpetrators to justice.
It is worth noting that, in June 2020, the attorney general issued a warrant for the arrest of 20 persons accused of having committed mass crimes in Tarhuna, including Abdulrahim Al-Kani and his brothers.
