UNICEF: $ 20 million needed to help children in Libya

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), said on Tuesday, 378,000 children are in need of assistance and protection in 2018, in light of the “deteriorating humanitarian situation in Libya.”

Abdel-Rahman Ghandour, UNICEF Special Representative to Libya, said 2018 is “a pivotal year” for Libya, and especially for children.

“This is why at UNICEF, we are appealing for $US 20 million to help us scale up our response” for urgent assistance to children, Ghandour said on the UNICEF official page.

UNICEF said among the 170,000-people displaced, an estimated 54 per cent are children with hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants and refugees, a significant percentage of whom are children.
