UN mission: We have documented 106 civilians killed and 252 injured in the second quarter of 2020.

On Wednesday, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya documented 106 civilians killed and 252 injured, from April to June 2020, an increase of 173% over the first quarter of the same year.

During its report, the mission stated that fighting on the ground is the main cause of civilian casualties, followed by explosive remnants of war and air strikes, explaining that explosive remnants of war is the second largest recorded cause of civilian casualties by 43 victims, which represents 12 Percent of total losses.

The mission indicated that Haftar militias left behind mines and explosive devices when they withdrew , which endangered the safety and security of the returning population, and resulted in injuries among civilians, including children, as well as the security personnel assigned to remove these deadly devices.

The mission added that it had documented nine attacks on six different health care facilities, as well as another attack on an ambulance, seven of which were attributed to Haftar militias, while the responsibility of two of these attacks could not be attributed, explaining that an incident of the bombing of the Alkhadra Hospital in Tripoli, which It was designated to receive corona patients, was hit by rockets on four occasions before.
