The United Nations Support Mission in Libya condemned the killing of lawyer Hanan Al-Barasi, in broad daylight in Benghazi, by unknown gunmen.
The mission confirmed – in a statement – Tuesday, that Al-Barasi is one of the most outspoken critics of corruption, abuse of power and violations of human rights, noting that the “bereavement” of her killing indicates the threats facing Libyan women if they speak out.
The mission called for the perpetrators to be immediately brought to justice, and for a prompt and thorough investigation to be launched into her death.
It is worth noting that an armed group assassinated, on Tuesday, the human rights activist Hanan Al-Barasi, known as “Azzouz Barqa”, with a number of bullets, in the center of Benghazi, in “Ishreen” Street , minutes after her criticism of the military rule of Haftar and his sons.
