A team from the Guernica 37 International Justice chambers announces that they have submitted a complaint to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court on the war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Khalifa Haftar and his forces in #Benghazi during a press conference.
The file presented includes witness statements. The allegations listed include: murder, torture, inhumane treatment, willfully causing suffering, extensive destruction, appropriation of property. The team stressed the need for accountability for the crimes committed so that the reconciliation efforts can be deemed meaningful and credible.
In their statement they announced the submission of “credible reports, underpinned by first-hand evidence that individuals within the chain of command have, and continue to commit war crimes and/or crimes against humanity in their pursuit of power.”
This submission comes after the ICC has issued an arrest warrant for a commander reporting to Haftar, Mahmoud Al-Warfalli.
