Security Council: There can be no military solution in Libya

The Security Council stressed that there can be no military solution in Libya, calling for accountability of those who undermine the peace and security of Libya.

In a statement on Friday, the UN Security Council also welcomed the briefing by UN envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame condemning recent violence in the city of Tripoli.

The UN session commended the results of the mediation efforts undertaken by the UN Mission in Libya to stop the escalation of violence in and around Tripoli and to ensure the protection of civilians, calling on the parties to immediately implement and abide by the ceasefire.

The Security Council urged Libyans to join forces and to engage in peace and to engage in an urgent and constructive manner in order to ensure the availability of technical, legislative, security and political conditions for an inclusive and peaceful elections.

In his briefing to the UN Security Council, UN envoy, Ghassan Salame said many members of the House of Representatives (HOR) seek to sabotage the political process to achieve personal gains.
