On Thursday, a spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, denied her country’s support for Haftar’s attack on Tripoli in early April 2019.
In a related context, “Zakharova” said in statements to reporters, reported by the Russian news agency “Sputnik”, that the Foreign Minister of the Accord Government, Mohammed Siala, will visit Moscow on December 30, and will meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
“Zakharova” added that during the “Lavrov” and Siala meeting, it is scheduled to exchange views on the situation in and around Libya, including efforts to strengthen the ceasefire, according to “Sputnik”.
It is worth noting that Russian President “Vladimir Putin” confirmed, during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, after their meeting in Moscow last January, that there are a large number of mercenaries from several countries active in the conflict zone in Libya.
For its part, the American Command in Africa accused Russia of sending weapons to Libya, including anti-aircraft missile systems, as well as Russian mercenaries operating in the front lines of the conflict in Libya.
