Pompeo and de Maio hail the progress made in the dialogue meetings.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said: Wednesday, that the United States has made enormous diplomatic efforts to try to solve the situation in Libya, and that Washington is optimistic about the improvement of the situation on the ground in Libya.

Pompeo added, during a press conference with Italian Foreign Minister Luigi de Maio in the Italian capital Rome, that the ceasefire in Libya is in the interest of the entire region and the Libyan people, according to the Italian news agency AKI.

For his part, Italian Foreign Minister Luigi de Maio explained that his country is working intensively with European allies and the United States of America, to support the dialogue process in Libya, for a permanent ceasefire.

de Maio added that the past few weeks have been “essential” for Libya, as steps forward have been made, led by the “Libyan-Libyan dialogue” and between countries that have “influence on Libya,” according to what was reported by the Italian news agency AKI.

de Maio emphasized that the Libya crisis is a “national security issue” for Italy, describing the United States as a “strategic ally”, which “makes an essential contribution to the stability of the entire region.”

It is worth noting that the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo said earlier, that they want to deal with the malicious activities of Russia that destabilize Libya and contribute to the escalation of the situation.
