Pentagon: Civilian casualties due to operations against IS in Libya unknown

The United States Defense Department announced on Friday, in a report to Congress on civilian casualties as a result of its military strikes on IS in four countries including Libya.

According to CNN, the Pentagon said in the report it does not have “credible reports” of civilian casualties; as a result of US military operations in Somalia or Libya during the past year.

The report highlighted “the difficulty of avoiding civilian casualties in some cases,” despite the efforts made during air raids or ground combat operations, because of the use of IS and Al-Qaida agents of civilians as human shields.

In President Donald Trump first year, the number of air strikes in Libya decreased, while it rose in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, and Somalia.
