Observers: Algeria’s invitation to Aqeela Saleh is a message not to allow Egypt to present initiatives away from the rest of the neighboring countries.

It was clear from the start that the Algerian position rejected the aggression against Tripoli, even if this refusal remained trapped in statements and press releases, and did not extend to concrete actions.

However, this statement remains a focal point for researchers in the meanings of Algerian diplomacy, which rejects a military solution, and always calls for the resumption of negotiations leading to a political solution.

Perhaps from this standpoint, we can understand the invitation of Algeria to the Speaker of the Parliament of Tobruk Aqeela Saleh to visit Algeria after the military defeat of Haftar militias on the walls of Tripoli, and after the Egyptian President Abdelfattah El-Sisi proposed a unilateral political initiative outside the framework of the Skhirat Agreement.

Algerian President Abdelmajid Taboun renewed, during his meeting with Aqeela Saleh, the Algerian position, “the constant calling for dialogue between Libyans; In order to reach a political solution away from foreign military interventions, according to the outputs of the Berlin Conference, ”according to a statement of the Presidency.

While Aqeela Saleh, in a statement to Algerian television, said that he “visited Algeria at the invitation of President Taboun; In order to discuss how to solve the Libyan crisis, stressing that Taboun “was acquainted with the Cairo initiative and will make his effort to reunite the Libyans.”

It has no purpose

The writer and political analyst Ali Abuzayd said: Algeria was expected to support the reconciliation government and its legitimacy if it was really keen on its interests, and it wants to be influential in the Libyan file.

Abuzayd added, in a statement to Arraed, that Algeria still insists on not taking a position appropriate to its size and impact, and interacts with the Libyan file through the positions of others, and therefore the invitation of Aqeela Saleh has no purpose but to send a message to the Egyptian side that it will not allow Egypt to present the initiatives alone far from the neighboring countries, but conveying this message by the invitating Aqeela Saleh does not make sense.

Regional pillars

The writer and political analyst Abdulmajeed Awiti believes that Aqeelah Saleh is looking for regional and international foundations that support his place and position as a possible alternative to Haftar at the next negotiating table, and therefore there has been a lot of talk recently about the shift of the eastern negotiation headquarters from Alrajma to the Alqoba.

Al-Awiti added, in a statement to Arraed, that Algeria is also looking for a foothold for influence in the Libyan file, even if it is somewhat late, especially after the Turkish-Libyan agreements that Algeria seems to agree to reluctantly, and for this it meets Aqeela Saleh, and it is likely to intensify its diplomatic efforts , For this purpose.

Reservation to the Cairo Initiative

The journalist and writer Abdullah Al-Kabeer said that the visit took place at the invitation of the Algerian president for two reasons. The first: to know the details of the new position as mentioned in the Cairo statement, and to clarify the Algerian position from the Cario statement to Aqeela, and the other is a message to Egypt and the international community expressing the ability of Algerian diplomacy to communicate with all parties of the conflict in Lybia.

In a statement to Arraed , Al-Kabir added, that Algeria expressed its diplomatic reservations about the Cairo statement, and then it will inform Aqeela of the reasons for this reservation and again put forward its initiative to him after having previously obtained the Libyan parties’ consent before they were aborted by some of the countries involved in the conflict.
