More than 500 illegal migrants rescued off the Libyan coast

The Libyan Coast Guard rescued in separate two operations on Monday in two separate operations 506 illegal migrants off the shores of Sabratha and Garabulli.

The Libyan navy spokesperson, Ayoub Qassem told ArraedLG, the migrants were aboard four rubber boats, among them were 18 Libyan nationals and 33 women, pointing out that migrants are of Arab, African and Bangladeshi nationality.

Qassem explained that the boat Kifah saved 100 migrants 20 miles north of Sabratha, before returning, and rescuing 406 other migrants off the shores of Garabulli.

The Navy’s spokesperson added that the migrants were taken to the Tripoli naval base and were provided with humanitarian and medical assistance.


On Sunday, the Coast Guard rescued 241 illegal immigrants in two separate operations off the shores of Janzur and Zawiya.
