Libya’s UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA) has taken administrative control over ten ministries since its arrival in Tripoli on March 30, further solidifying its authority in Libya.

The unity government has taken control of the transport, housing and public utilities, social affairs, environment, local government, religious affairs, and youth and sports ministries, and most recently the foreign affairs and education ministries.

The education ministry was handed over to Presidential Council (PC) member Mohamed Al-Amari, the designated Minister for Specialized Councils Affairs, on Wednesday

Al-Amari said that the transfer of power to the new unity government was going well and  “as soon as the ministers take the oath of office, they can begin working from these ministries.”

According to the Libyan Political Agreement (LPA), which was reached on December 17, 2015, the House of Representatives (HoR) is required to give a vote of confidence, however, the HoR has been reluctant to hold a voting session to authorize it.

Libya’s various political and armed factions have come under immense pressure to concede their power and accept the unity government’s authority in order to provide stability to the conflict-ridden country, which is also trying to put a stop to a growing ISIS threat.
