Libyan navy rescues 362 illegal immigrants

The Libyan navy rescued 362 illegal immigrants on Wednesday and Thursday, in three separate operations.

The Libyan navy’s spokesperson, Brigadier Ayoub Qassem told ArraedLG on Friday, the first rescue operation was carried out by the Qaminis Coast Guard patrol, which rescued 89 African and Asian migrants, 20 of which are women, aboard a rubber boat north of Khoms city.

Qassem said that a patrol covering the area from north of Zliten to the Libyan maritime border with Tunisia carried out the second rescue operation through Al-Kifah boat, which rescued 250 migrants, 13 of whom are women, 6 children of African nationalities and 3 Egyptians.

The navy’s spokesperson said the boat Sabratha carried out the third rescue operation of 9 Libyans and 23 migrants who were on board a small wooden boat, about 50 miles north of Abu kamash.

Qassem attributed the surge in illegal immigration across the sea to improved weather conditions.
