
On Tuesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed his support for the initiative launched by the Chairman of the Tobruk Parliament Aqeela Saleh , which provides for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the intensification of negotiations between the parties for a solution to the Libyan crisis.
This came during a phone call between Saleh and Lavrov, in which they stressed that there is no military solution to the Libyan crisis, stressing the need to start a constructive dialogue with the participation of all Libyan political forces.
A statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry, reported by the Russian news agency Sputnik, added that Saleh and Lavrov discussed the importance of resuming the political process under the auspices of the United Nations with the participation of the Libyan parties to solve the crisis on the basis of the outcome of the Berlin Conference approved by the UN Security Council.
It is reported that the Chairman of the Parliament of Tobruk Aqeela Saleh announced on the 23rd of last April an initiative for a political solution in Libya in response to Haftar’s announcement of the coup against the parliament and the Libyan political agreement.
