Italy: Flow of migrants dropped to less than a quarter from last year

The number of illegal migrants arriving in the country has fallen by less than 25 percent since the beginning of August 2017 to July 31, the Italian Interior Ministry said.

In a report, the ministry said that the number of immigrants coming to Italy dropped from 182,877 immigrants to 42,000 and 700 immigrants, pointing out that 65% of migrants arrived from Libya, 15 percent from Tunisia, 3.5 percent from Turkey.

The Coast Guard of the Libyan navy has rescued about 700 illegal immigrants from the territorial waters since the beginning of August.
