“Guterres” suggests “Mladenov” as an UN envoy to Libya, and the decision will be made today.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, “Antonio Guterres,” suggested on Tuesday, his envoy to the Middle East, “Nikolay Mladenov” to become his special envoy for Libya, to succeed the former envoy Ghassan Salama.

According to the Russian agency Sputnik, his appointment will be approved this evening if there are no objections from the member states of the Security Council, to put an end to months of quarrels caused by the United States’ pressure to divide the role of the international organization in Libya into an envoy who runs the political mission of the United Nations, and another focuses on Mediation in the conflict, according to the agency.

It is worth noting that the Secretary-General of the United Nations, “Antonio Guterres,” informed the Security Council last November of his intention to appoint the current UN envoy to the Middle East, the Bulgarian “Nikolai Mladenov”, as his special envoy to Libya.
