The United Nations Security Council confirmed their support for the United Nations plan of action for a comprehensive political operation in #Libya; which would be shaped and controlled by Libyans and led by the UN.
In a statement published on Tuesday, the Council reiterated its support for the political agreement, referring to the important role played by the President of the Presidential Council in promoting national reconciliation.
The Council also welcomed the efforts of the Special UN envoy, Ghassan Salame, in supporting a Libyan-led transition process which would lead to stable, unified and effective governance within the framework of the LPA.
The statement highlighted the UN’s concern regarding the deterioration of the economic, security and humanitarian situation in #Libya; calling on UN agencies to intensify work in the field in order to help improve the living conditions of the population- including migrants.
The statement also acknowledged the need for a unified security force to combat “terrorism”, illegal immigration and prevent the smuggling of illegal goods.
