French Foreign Minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian, confirmed on Thursday that Russia had brought Syrian mercenaries to fight in the ranks of the Haftar militias alongside the mercenaries of the Russian company, “Wagner”.
“This matter threatens their security and that of neighbors, including Tunisia and Algeria,” he said, calling for the respect of the Berlin Agreement for cease fire, the resumption of the political process, respect for the arms embargo imposed on Libya, and the withdrawal of foreign forces.
It is worth noting that the reports of the United Nations experts leaked on May 7 indicated the presence of about 1,200 Russian “Wagner” mercenaries and Syrian mercenaries who came from Damascus, and groups from Chad and Sudan fighting in the ranks of Haftar militias.
