Erdogan: Our positive stance in the eastern Mediterranean thwarted the attempt to impose European sanctions on us.

Turkish President Rejep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that our country’s positive attitudes towards the eastern Mediterranean developments have frustrated the expectations of some European countries calling for sanctions against Turkey.

Erdogan added in a press statement that the wise countries in the European Union thwarted a plot against Turkey by putting forward positive stance during the European summit, which did not meet the expectations of some countries regarding Turkey “because their stance was not right.”

Erdogan pointed out that there is talk of new plans for the issuance of sanctions against Turkey at the European summit to be held in March 2021, where nothing can come out of that summit as well, and there are many rights that the European Union countries must give to Turkey.

It is worth noting that Erdogan stated during his participation, via video call from dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul, at the meeting of the heads of branches of the Justice and Development Party that Turkey has not and will not take a step that would undermine the spirit of relations with the United States and the European Union.
