Central Bank of Tripoli welcomes the invitation of Al-Seraj to meet with his counterpart in Al-Bayda

The Central Bank of Libya in Tripoli welcomed the invitation of the President of the Presidential Council to hold a meeting between the Governor of the Central Bank Sadiq Al-Kabir and of and the governor of the central parallel in al-Bayda Ali Al-Habri.

In a statement on Sunday, the Central Bank said that the meeting would be held on legal grounds and that a specialized body would be appointed to review the work of the two banks, as “each bank bears the legal responsibilities resulting from its actions,” according to the statement.

The Central Bank explained that the state of political division, security chaos, the presence of a parallel government, and the closure of ports and oil fields caused the Libyan state losses estimated at 160 billion dollars, resulting in “economic crisis, lack of liquidity, high prices and devaluation of the Libyan dinar.”

The head of the Presidential Council, Fayez al-Sarraj, called last week the governors of the Central Bank of Libya in Tripoli, and his counterpart in Al-Bayda, to a meeting chaired by the Presidential Council in order to develop monetary policies and address the economic crisis.
