The American “International Policy Guide” magazine, which specializes in international affairs, said that “the warlord, Khalifa Haftar,” has committed human rights violations. He failed to establish himself as the new leader, after Tripoli demonstrated its ability to resist his military offensive.
In its latest issue, the magazine added that supporting Haftar in exchange for dispensing with democracy and human rights adopted by the outgoing US administration and the French government, at the beginning of the Tripoli war, is a mistake, and a bad idea.
The magazine revealed that Libya represents an opportunity for the United States and the West to abandon the wrong logic of supporting a dictator to restore stability to Libya and ensure its interests.
The magazine stated that if an authoritarian government that lacks the legitimacy of the Libyan people tries to end the other political forces, with force and support from the West, the problems of immigration and terrorism will not stop, but rather they will increase.
It is worth noting that the US House of Representatives approved, last November, the “Law to Support Stability in Libya, which provides for the imposition of sanctions against those who committed war crimes or financial crimes, and violators of international law and human rights in Libya.”
