Algeria is concerned about establishing an Emirati base in Mauritania.

The Algerian newspaper “Patriotique Algérie” said that Algeria views with great concern the establishment of a base and a military airport for the Emirates in northern Mauritania close to its southern border, adding that Algeria considers this an “additional threat” to its security and an Encirclement to it.

The newspaper added, that Algeria asked the Emirati Minister of Foreign Affairs, “Abdullah bin Zayed” to provide clarifications on the nature and objectives of the UAE military presence at its southern borders, during the visit of the UAE minister to Algiers to discuss the Libyan crisis.

It is worth noting that an Emirati military delegation visited Mauritania during the past days in an effort to establish an Emirati military airport in northern Mauritania.
