Agreement between Libya and US for protection of cultural property

The US State Department said on Friday it will sign a memorandum of understanding with the Government of National Accord (GNA) Ministry of Foreign Affairs to protect cultural property.

The ministry said on its official website said US State for Foreign Affairs Undersecretary, Stephen Goldstein would conclude the agreement with the Undersecretary of the Libyan Foreign Affairs Ministry, Lutfi Al-Mughrabi, indicating that the United States would impose restrictions on imports from the Libyan antiquities dating back to 12000 BC, archaeological material during 1750, and Ottoman material dating from 1551 to 1911.

The United States has concluded bilateral agreements that imposed restrictions on imports of cultural property with 17 countries around the world
